People’s Artist of the RSFSR Leonid Kuravlev died in Moscow at the age of 86. This was reported on Sunday, January 30, by Russian news agencies, citing the Union of Cinematographers of the Russian Federation. The actor will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery, the date of farewell and funeral will be determined later.

According to media reports, since the beginning of January, Leonid Kuravlev has been treated for pneumonia at Moscow Hospital No. 40 in Kommunarka. The actor’s condition was assessed as serious, while his tests for coronavirus were negative. After being discharged, Kuravlev was sent to a hospice.

More than 200 roles in movies and TV series

Leonid Kuravlev was born on October 8, 1936 in Moscow, studied at the acting department of VGIK in the workshop of Boris Bibikov. While still a student, he made his debut in cinema, playing in 1958 in the film “Today there will be no dismissal …” by Andrei Tarkovsky and Alexander Gordon. In 1960, Kuravlev starred in the first feature film – the film “Michman Panin” by Mikhail Schweitzer. In the same year, after studying, he joined the troupe of the Theater-Studio of the film actor, where he served until 1992.

Among the most popular works of Kuravlev are roles in the films “Such a Guy Lives” by Vasily Shukshin, “The Golden Calf” by Mikhail Schweitzer, “Ivan Vasilyevich Changes Profession” and “Dangerous for Life!” Leonid Gaidai, “Afonya” by Georgy Danelia, “Look for a Woman” by Alla Surikova, “Shirley Myrli” by Vladimir Menshov. In total, Leonid Kuravlev played more than 200 roles in films and TV shows.
