He had just reached the summit of Annapurna, 8,091 meters above sea level, the tenth highest in the world. Noel Hanna died, in unspecified circumstances, shortly after his return. His body was taken from Annapurna Base Camp to Kathmandu. The 56-year-old mountaineer was not his first experience in such extreme conditions. Known for having reached the highest peak in the world, Everest ten times. In 2006 he even cycled down from the 8,849 meter summit to ride to the Bay of Bengal in just two weeks.

2019, the year of all records

Noel Hanna is known for his exploits in the high mountains in solo, but also for his ability to push others to surpass themselves. 2019 will remain a crazy year. In February, he helps Decatur Boland, 12, to climb with his father to the top of the highest volcano in South America, Pico De Orizabo in Mexico (5636m). It was the first time that such a young boy had accomplished such a climb. In May, Noel accompanies Sarah Khumalo to the peak of Mount Everest. She becomes the first black African woman to reach Everest. To end his year in style, the Irishman decides to climb the eighth highest mountain in the world, Mount Manaslu 8163m, with his wife Lynne Hanna, the first Irish woman to reach a summit of more than 8000m without oxygen.
