Fans show the Hitler salute in the away block in Paris

FC Barcelona fans caused a scandal at the Champions League away game in Paris. They provoked PSG supporters with the Hitler salute.

On the pitch, the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona offered excellent entertainment, with the Catalans winning 3-2. However, ugly scenes took place in the stands of the Parc des Princes, the French home ground.

Shortly before the final whistle of the game, a video was uploaded to the social network “X” which documented massive misconduct by largely younger Barca fans.

In the short clip, a person can be seen raising their right arm in the direction of PSG fans in a Hitler salute. In the background another person is making monkey gestures.

The creator of the video writes on “X”: “Barcelona fans present in the stadium show Nazi greetings and insult Paris fans as monkeys.”

Barcelona has a problem with right-wing fans

It is not the first time that FC Barcelona fans have written negative headlines with right-wing slogans. As the English “Sun” reports, there was a similar incident in 2020.

At that time, Barca’s reserves met those of city rivals Espanyol. During the encounter, a small group of Barcelona fans are said to have repeatedly quoted phrases and songs from the Nazi era and, according to the Sun, sang a contemptuous song about a deceased Espanyol player.

In November 2021, the Spanish police published images and video material from several house searches. Officials gained access to 18 locations that were associated with Barca’s right-wing ultra group “Boixos Nois.”

They found lots of weapons, drugs and Nazi propaganda in the form of magazines, flags and more.

The group was then officially banned from all further FC Barcelona games. But right-wing ideas still seem to be present in the Catalans’ fan base.

FC Barcelona has not yet responded to these images, and there was initially no statement from UEFA either.
