The Spanish far-right party Vox has decided to file a complaint against the Prime Minister of the Kingdom Pedro Sanchez amid accusations against the Madrid judge investigating the case against his wife Begoña Gomez. The political force reported this on X (formerly Twitter), Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

Vox files complaint against Pedro Sanchez, Minister of Justice [Феликса Боланьоса] and the state general bar association in response to a complaint against a judge,” the publication notes. According to the extreme right, the prime minister is using state institutions “for personal interests.”

The judge in question is Juan Carlos Peinado, who in April announced an investigation into Sanchez’s wife for alleged corruption. On July 30, the judge arrived at the prime minister’s official residence to take testimony in the case. The prime minister exercised his right not to do so, citing an article in the criminal procedure code that allows him not to testify against his wife. It was then announced that the state bar association had filed a complaint against Peinado for abuse of office.

A Madrid judge is investigating Sánchez’s wife based on a complaint filed by the Clean Hands syndicate, which acknowledged that the suspicions were based on press publications. According to El Confidencial, the case centers on Gómez’s relationship with several private companies that received funds and public contracts from the government. The prosecutor’s office has requested that the case be dismissed.

After the investigation began, the prime minister temporarily cancelled his public engagements to consider whether he would remain in office. Sánchez accused Spain’s political right and far right of launching unprecedented attacks on Gomez. The prime minister subsequently refused to resign.
