Their result is a jump of 13%. The ruling People’s Party and the Greens are down big since the 2019 election.
6.3 million Austrians were eligible to vote in Sunday’s parliamentary election. In the early afternoon, about 73% of voters went to the polls.
According to initial estimates reported by the Interior Ministry, the far-right Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) has the most support at 29.1 percent, which calls for the “remigration of uninvited foreigners” and to achieve a “more homogeneous” nation through strict border control.
The result is now 13 percent better than the result in 2019.
The Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP) of current Chancellor Karl Nehammer took 26.3 percent of the vote. That’s a loss of 11.1 percent compared to 5 years later.
Since the margin of error is about 2 percent, it is theoretically possible for the ruling People’s Party to unseat the Freedom Party.
Austria’s Social Democratic Party (SPÖ) has 20.9 percent. It lost only 0.1 percent, but recorded its lowest result ever.
In fourth place is the “New Austria and Liberal Forum” NEOS with 8.8 percent. Achieves a plus of 0.7 percent,
The Greens (Grünen) have 8.7 percent. They lose 5.3 percent.
The Communist Party (KPÖ) has 2.3 percent.
The Beer Party (Bier) has 2.1 percent support.
For now, it seems that these two parties will not enter the parliament – they do not cross the 4 percent barrier.

Official final election results are expected at 11pm Austrian time.
Just a few minutes after the polls closed in Vienna, the Ministry of the Interior announced the first estimated results.
The quick publication of the forecast results obtained through mathematical models as a result of the counted ballots is possible due to the fact that already at 1 p.m. they closed the first sections in small settlements, then at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. – the majority of nearly 10,000 electoral point, and at 5 p.m. the last desks closed.
Stay tuned for details.
