40 years after the death of President Ahmed Sékou Touré, many Guineans still remember this torchbearer of Guinean independence. It is in this vein that the daughters and sons, nationals and residents of Faranah, organized the reading of the Holy Quran and the sacrifice not only for the rest of the souls of all the companions of independence but also for peace and development in Guinea.

This Tuesday, March 26, 2024, the central mosque of Faranah served as the setting for these activities. In this house of God, the Muslim faithful dressed in white did not fail to bless and read the Holy Quran. On behalf of the organizing structure, the Kantiyah of Faranah, vice Kanti Elhadj Sékou Camara underlines the reason for this event: “This ceremony is for us a solemn opportunity to reaffirm our unwavering attachment to its ideals. This is why all the sons of Faranah and other regions made the trip massively to come with our parents to celebrate this ceremony with our parents from Faranah. We had enough programs but taking into account the fact that the complete renovation work on the house of the late President Ahmed Sékou Touré started by the government has not yet been completed, we preferred to do it in two stages. The first, as March 26 does not repeat twice a year, we preferred to do the first step which is the reading of the Koran and the sacrifices. The second stage as soon as the restoration of the house is finished, we will come and carry out the carnival, the inauguration and the symposium on Sékou Touré why not the botanical garden that we want to name in his name. This ceremony took place thanks to President General Mamadi Doumbouya. Due to the fact that he returned the Villa Belle-vue, the Villa Andrée to the family of the late president, he named the international airport of Conakry in his name, this is what stirred the conscience of all the Faranakas for accompany President Mamadi Doumbouya whom we thank very much. »

Present at this ceremony, the governor of Faranah, Boundouka Condé measures this ceremony at its true value: “This ceremony represents recognition of a man who gave everything to his people, who gave everything to Africa. Hearing the works of the late Ahmed Sékou Touré, everything linked to him should not be forgotten. From his death until now, this is the first time that such a mobilization has taken place in his memory, and this is thanks to the President of the Republic General Mamadi Doumbouya who gave the name of the airport Conakry international to the late Ahmed Sékou Touré. He rehabilitated it and this deserves to be truly known and crowned by events like what we are experiencing today. »

Coming from Siguiri to participate in this ceremony of reading the Holy Quran, Elhadj Ibrahima Kalil Keita, ex-prefect of Faranah, told us his feelings: “for me it is a feeling of satisfaction and moral comfort. Today, President Mamadi Doumbouya rehabilitated the founding father of the Guinean nation. Sékou Touré no longer lives. His physique has disappeared. The first life is in the flesh. However, flesh and bone are decomposable organic substances that the roots of plants draw on for nourishment. It is today that Sékou Touré begins his second life. An eternal life, that is why he is there not in flesh and blood but in ideal. Ideal of truth, ideal of justice, ideal of behavior, ideal of social utility, ideal of peace and development throughout the world. I thank President Mamadi Doumbouya for his wisdom and his recognition of the works of the late Comrade Ahmed Sékou Touré. “
