The Central General Staff of the FARC dissidents announced this Sunday that it is suspending the negotiation table with the Government in the midst of a serious public order situation that exists in the El Plateado district, municipality of Argelia, in the department of Cauca, which has become a fortress of illegal structure.
After the kidnapping of 15 soldiers was carried out in that town by the community, which in turn was forced to do so by the Carlos Patiño column, the dissidents announced the suspension of dialogues with the Government, which had already presented several tensions since the installation of the table on October 16.
They also explain that “our organization has always strived to comply with each and every one of the commitments we make with the Colombian State, especially with the Government of President Gustavo Petro (…) However, the constant non-compliance to the agreements that the parties designed, discussed and approved, added to the lack of seriousness on the part of the national Government in compliance with each of the protocols, the commitments signed and adopted within the table take us further away every day from the possibility of achieving our main purpose: peace.”
It was in this sense that they referred to the situation in El Plateado, assuring that “we do not agree that the development of peasant communities forgotten for so long by the State is advanced through processes of militarization of indigenous, black, and Raizal territories; that the harsh hand of the State is imposed with its armed arm and not with its power of development, it is evident that in that sense the State does not want a peace agreement, but an action of submission on our revolutionary armed organization and the communities that “They have been beaten throughout their lives.”
And, after last Saturday, November 4, the community of El Plateado removed the Army from the urban area and this Sunday they kidnapped about 15 soldiers, the commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Giraldo, traveled to Popayán to be in charge of the situation, and in the next few hours he will give an official report on what happened this weekend in that district that has been under siege for several weeks by dissidents.

That was the reason that the organization used as an excuse to suspend the negotiating table. “From today (Sunday, November 5) we declare suspended the dialogue table and the agenda agreed between the Government and the FARC-EP, we will begin an internal consultation process with our dialogue commission. We invite the Government to do the same.”
However, the dissidents clarified that “the bilateral ceasefire remains as we have agreed,” this means that the cessation of military actions that began at midnight on October 16 remains until January 15, 2024.
Finally, the dissidents maintain that “we hope we can overcome this crisis” but warn that “the national peace agreement table is in danger of generating a definitive break.”
