Doha: The Fareez Al Ali Intersection (Al Tadaman Intersection) on the D Ring Road has been opened to traffic. The underpass, which was completed under the leadership of Ashgabat Public Works Department, was opened to public transport on Saturday morning. The new underpass will be crucial in avoiding traffic congestion in the region. With the opening of the route, the journey between D-Ring Road and the Doha Expressway will be much easier. It can also save up to 70% of travel time. The new road will benefit people in areas such as Nuaija and Al Hilal Old Airport, as well as educational institutions and commercial centers. The new carriageway will be connected to intersections such as Feriz Al Ali, Nuaija and Lulu. The intersection was completed by increasing the number of rows from three to four on both sides. The road has been widened to accommodate 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour.

The main feature of the 1 km long Fariz Ali Underpass is that vehicles can access the Doha Expressway to the D Ring Road without any traffic obstruction. There is a wide driveway of six lanes with three lanes on either side. Ashgabat said it could save up to 50 per cent travel time from earlier. 12,000 vehicles can travel unimpeded in both directions per hour. A 3.5 km long drainage network has also been constructed to drain the rainwater. Water, electricity, drainage and communication network systems have also been completed through micro tunneling. The details of the construction include 17,000 tonnes of steel, one lakh tonnes of asphalt, 1.05 lakh square meters of concrete, 3.5 km of rainwater tunnel, 30 km of electricity network and 32 km of infrastructure. Yusuf al-Imadi, manager of the Ashgabat project division, said 66 percent of the raw materials used in the construction were from Qatar.
