They were Millonarios fans and moved citizens, united by a common feeling: to say goodbye to Javier Acosta, a fervent supporter of the blue team, who had made the decision to undergo euthanasia.
The clock struck 12:00 noon, the moment when Javier, known to everyone as ‘Javi’, was preparing for his final journey. Throughout the morning, the surroundings of the hospital were filled with songs, prayers and tears.Javi, no to euthanasia“, shouted a desperate chorus, in a final attempt to persuade him to change his mind.
Javier’s story had captured the attention of the entire country days before, when his story went viral on social media. ‘Javi’ shared his painful journey, one that began with a fungus acquired in a swimming pool in Melgar, which ended up causing him a series of health complications. The infection began to grow. There is no treatment that works. In addition, an internal lymph node appeared in my head. The infection has already reached my head, which would not allow me to speak.”
His words echoed in the minds of those who had gathered to accompany him in his final moments. When the time came, Javier was discreetly transferred to another medical center, where he was finally euthanized. In an official statement, San Ignacio Hospital reported that the transfer was carried out under strict confidentiality at the request of the family.
