Farewell to Shipping Titan Spyros Polemis: A Legacy in Sea and Community

Passed away at the age of 86, Spyros Polemis, shipowner, former president of ICS, and director of Seacrest Shipping based in London.

The news was announced by the Andros Yacht Club (AYC), of which the 86-year-old shipowner was a founding member and honorary president.

Spyros M. Polemis was born on December 12, 1937, in Athens. He studied mechanical engineering – naval architecture in the USA. He had three children, Anna, Leonidas, and Katerina.

The announcement issued by the Andros Yacht Club regarding the death of Spyros Polemis states:

“With great sadness, we announce the news of the death of the honorary president, founding member, long-time president of the Andros Yacht Club, and former president of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) SPYROS MICH. POLEMIS on Sunday, July 21, 2024.”

“With deep emotion, they bid farewell to him, the Kamara he loved, the Andros he adored, the international shipping family that loses an active member as the deceased was a strong representative of the shipping community in London, Athens, and New York. This is a significant loss primarily for the family of Spyros Polemis but also for all those who collaborated and journeyed with him in life and professional creation.”

“SPYROS POLEMIS was distinguished for his character, seriousness, kindness, and integrity. A cooperative person, eloquent in speech and active in deeds, with intellectual concerns and quests, he did not falter in the storms of life and fought until the end.”

“With the announcement of the death of SPYROS MICH. POLEMIS, President Phaidonas Tamvakakis and the members of the Board of Directors of the Andros Yacht Club, in an extraordinary meeting today, Monday, July 22, 2024, unanimously decided as follows:

and approve the issuance of this resolution:
