President of European Gymnastics (EG) Farid Gaibov spoke about the significant events of the past month.
As İdman.biz reports, he spoke about them in the traditional column “Notes of the President” on the website of the organization he heads.
“At the beginning of September, the EG member federations met in Budapest to prepare for the upcoming 85th Congress of the International Gymnastics Federation in Doha (Qatar) from 24 to 26 October. We discussed the elections that will take place within the framework of the upcoming Congress. I am very grateful to the officials from 43 countries who were able to attend the meeting and share their valuable insights. Representatives of the remaining 7 countries also praised the meeting, although they were unable to attend due to certain circumstances.
There were indeed lively discussions at the meeting. It was very interesting to listen to the candidates’ speeches, which led to effective discussions. With each meeting held, we move to a new level of mutual understanding and collaboration between federations. At the end of the meeting, everyone expressed a desire to continue meetings of this kind. “In addition, these meetings help us focus on certain topics and discuss the issues we face today and how future elected members of the FIG Executive Committee can address these issues for the future of gymnastics,” said Gaibov.
He emphasized that meetings of the Presidential Council and the Executive Committee of the EG were also held. “We have approved the Medical Regulations for 2024 and the Technical Regulations for 2025, the capitals of the European Championships in aerobics and TeamGym have been determined for these years, and a tender has been announced for holding the continental championships in artistic gymnastics in 2026 and 2027,” added the head of EG.
F. Gaibov emphasized that in the second half of September all attention was focused on three non-Olympic disciplines. “Guimaraes (Portugal) opened its doors to the World Age Group competitions and the World Acrobatics Championships, while Pesaro (Italy) hosted the World Aerobics Championships. All events were organized to a high standard and some of the best gymnasts from around the world put on a fantastic competition.
At the same time, European Gymnastics and the Bulgarian Rhythmic Gymnastics Federation organized the magnificent Golden Age Gym Festival, which took place from September 22 to 27 in the beautiful Black Sea resort of Burgas. Some 1,500 participants from 19 countries experienced the magic of Gymnastics for All by taking part in a huge range of workshops, making new friends, showing off their skills in city performances, going on excursions and dancing the night away at community events,” said F .Gaibov.
He also shared his expectations for upcoming events. “In October, we are looking forward to witnessing the last European Championship of the year – the 15th TeamGym European Championship, which will take place from 16 to 19 October in Baku. TeamGym is a discipline where we see progress and growth every year and these competitions are proving to be exciting.
Another important event in October is the FIG Congress and elections. I wish all the candidates from different parts of the world success. I am confident that our colleagues will select candidates who are best suited for the job, with the qualifications and experience commensurate with the positions they will lead.
As many of you know, I have also announced my candidacy for FIG President. After the last election, I considered it my duty to do everything possible for the benefit of our sport. There are areas that I believe require significant attention and improvement for gymnastics and it is imperative that these are addressed if we are to see a future for the sport on a global scale. We deserve to be at a higher level and we must continue to develop the commercial side of the sport, its presentation and of course the recognition of our athletes on the world stage. They are our stars who will inspire future generations, so they deserve everything we can invest in their development.
We are all gymnastics people. It doesn’t matter where we are, our goal is the same, and every decision we make is aimed at the bright future of our sport,” concluded F. Gaibov.
