As reported by İdman.biz, the Minister of Youth and Sports stated this at an event dedicated to the presentation of the Azerbaijani Olympic team.
He noted that this time the Olympic cycle consisted of three years.
“There was not much time to prepare. But during this time, we had a new galaxy of athletes, and a number of federations held reporting and election conferences. The upcoming Olympics are the 33rd in a row and this figure is symbolic. After all, this year our country celebrates the 33rd anniversary of independence,” F. Gaibov emphasized.
He noted the composition of the Azerbaijani national team.
“48 athletes will go to Paris, 20 of whom are women. This is the first time in our history. For the first time, we will be represented in trampoline gymnastics, 3×3 basketball. And Maria Stadnik will compete in her fifth Olympics,” F. Gaibov said.
He also added that the flag of Azerbaijan at the opening ceremony will be carried by judoka Gultaj Mamedaliyeva and boxer Magomed Abdullayev.
