President of European Gymnastics (EG) Farid Gaibov spoke about the significant events of the past month.
As İdman.biz reports, he spoke about them in the traditional column “Notes of the President” on the website of the organization he heads.
“June turned out to be wonderful, despite the summer holidays, full of important discussions and decisions.
I took part in the 53rd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees, which took place in Bucharest on 6-7 June.
One of the main topics on the agenda was the next European Games 2027. Istanbul was confirmed as the host city. The hosting of the European Youth Olympic Festival 2027 was awarded to Sabbiadoro (Italy).
During the General Assembly, I had the opportunity to meet with the presidents of the National Olympic Committees and with colleagues from European federations representing various sports disciplines.
The General Assembly ended with a gala dinner, where our aerobic gymnastics masters outshone everyone. By the way, the opening ceremony of the 2024 European Football Championship also included gymnasts’ performances. All this proves that gymnastics is not only a high-performance sport, but also a wonderful combination of sports, music, art and an innovative sports presentation tool,” Gaibov emphasized.
He also said that he chaired the EG European Executive meetings on 14-15 June. “One of our annual meetings is traditionally hosted by one of the European Gymnastics member organisations. This time it was Gymnastics Ireland who offered a convenient venue for our meetings in Dublin. The meeting was memorable for the selection of the capitals of the upcoming European Championships. Frequent hosts of our events – Italy, France and Germany – will host the European Gym for Life Challenge and EUROGYM in 2026, the Golden Age Sports Festival in 2026 and the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2025 respectively. The mixed team final will be included in the programme of the latter competition.
We were able to get acquainted with the training bases created for the Irish national teams and talk to those responsible for sports in the country,” said F. Gaibov.
He also spoke about the upcoming competitions. “This weekend, the European gymnastics community will be immersed in the incredible atmosphere of the European Gym for Life Challenge and EUROGYM competitions in Bodo, Norway, which we hold every 2 years,” added the EG President.
F. Gaibov also spoke about the Olympics.
“The outstanding athletes from all Olympic sports who were lucky enough to qualify for the Summer Games in Paris have almost reached the final stop of the four-year sports train.
I wish every gymnast to feel the delight of their own successes achieved at the Games in Paris.”
