It is said in the notification, Md. Fariduddin Ahmad, former Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Islami Bank Bangladesh Plc and Exim Bank Plc, Advisor to Exim Bank Plc and Consultant (Islamic Banking) to Meghna Bank Plc, has been appointed by Bangladesh Bank as Independent Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Union Bank Plc. . He has extensive experience in Islamic banking and finance. On March 30, 1983, he joined Islami Bank Bangladesh Plc on its first day of establishment. He entered the banking profession in 1977 through the Bangladesh Bank Recruitment Committee and joined Sonali Bank Plc.

He was associated with the development of Islamic banking systems and procedures in Bangladesh. Fariduddin Ahmed also worked for the establishment of ‘Zaiz Bank’ designated by Islami Bank Bangladesh Plc in Nigeria.

Fariduddin Ahmad is involved as Chairman/Member of Shariah Supervisory Committee of many Islamic Banks and Islamic Financial Institutions and Corporate Organizations. He participated in various training programs, seminars and conferences at home and abroad and presented research papers on Islamic banking and finance. Farid received the Central Shariah Board Award for his contribution to Islamic banking in Bangladesh.

He was also awarded the Nawab Sir Salimullah Gold Medal for his outstanding contribution to the establishment, growth and development of Islamic banking in Bangladesh. He is a traveler. He has visited UK, USA, Germany, Switzerland, France, Japan, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, India, Singapore, Hong Kong, KSA, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Australia and Macau.
