A shocking incident occurred during a village council meeting in Pilliyarkulam panchayat near Srivilliputhar, Vridhunagar district, where a farmer was trampled by the Panchayat Secretary in the presence of an MLA and officials.

The Gram Sabha meeting, held yesterday morning, was attended by Srivilliputhur’s ADMK MLA, Manraj, P.T. O., Meenakshi, and members of the public. During the meeting, Ammaiyappan, a 52-year-old farmer from Veppankulam village, raised a question about the rotation of Gram Sabha meetings in other villages. He also questioned the participation of Panj. Secretary Thangapandian, who was reportedly transferred to another location.

In a fit of rage, Thangapandian suddenly got up and stomped on Ammaiyappan’s chest, shocking everyone, including the MLA and officials who were present.

Ammaiyappan was immediately rushed to Srivilliputhar Government Hospital in an 108 Ambulance as he experienced chest pain due to the assault. Currently, he is undergoing heart surgery, and the Vanniampatti police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Sharing his ordeal, Ammaiyappan stated, “I have already undergone a heart operation. After being trampled by Thangapandian, I was admitted to Srivilliputhar Government Hospital due to chest pain. However, the doctors claimed that nothing was wrong and asked me to leave. The police have also refused to take my complaint seriously, but I have lodged a complaint with the collector.”

In response to the incident, Panj. Secretary Thangapandian claimed that he was transferred without the approval of the municipal head and obtained a restraining order from the court to continue working in his current position. He cited Ammaiyappan’s alleged negative remarks about him during the village council meeting as the cause of the altercation.

Subsequently, the Vanniyambatti police have registered a case against Panj. Secretary Thangapandian under three sections, and Srivilliputhar District Village Development Officer Meenakshi has ordered his suspension pending further investigation.
