Farmers will receive BGN 6 million in compensation for damages caused by natural disasters

The Management Board of the State Fund “Agriculture” (SC of DFZ) approved a financial resource in the amount of BGN 6,000,000 under the state aid scheme “Aid to compensate for damage to agricultural crops caused by adverse climatic conditions, which can be equated to natural disasters” for damage in 2024, the Fund announced.

Assistance under the scheme consists of direct aid for 100 percent destroyed crops. The aid is in the amount of up to 80 percent of the actual costs of growing a given crop in the relevant economic year. The actual costs are calculated on the basis of technological maps based on information provided by the Agricultural Market Information System – SAPI EOOD. Under the scheme, farmers who have not taken out insurance get 50 percent of the eligible amount for support.

The approved funds will help farmers who have ascertainment protocols issued by July 31, 2024, including for 100 percent failed areas with completely destroyed agricultural crops for damage caused by adverse climatic conditions that can be equated to natural disasters that have occurred in 2024

According to a report approved by the Minister of Agriculture and Food, regarding the declaration of unfavorable climatic conditions in 2024, as of July 31, 2024, 572 reports of findings were issued to farmers for 100 failed failed areas. The failed areas occupied by agricultural crops, for which ascertainment protocols have been issued, amount to 13,245.72 ha.

The total area with completely destroyed crops that will be taken into account when calculating compensations is 6,169.73 ha.

Assistance is provided at the following intensity:

– up to 80 percent of actual cultivation costs for the following crops: almonds, grapevines, cabbage, peas, apricots, coriander, pears, oilseed flax, oilseed rose, chickpeas, oats, walnuts, peaches/nectarines, plums, tobacco, triticale , triticale with peas, cherries, apples, beans, dessert vines, tomatoes, potatoes, watermelons, cucumbers, lavender, raspberries, hazelnuts, other fruit, eggplant, pepper, sesame, hops, fruit planting material, melon, greenhouse cucumbers;

– up to 40 percent of actual cultivation costs for the following crops: wheat, barley, corn, rapeseed (hail), two-grain sorghum, sunflower;

The DF “Agriculture”, together with the competent directorates in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF), is to prepare guidelines for the provision of aid.
