Manamadurai, : In the areas adjacent to Manamadurai city, arable lands are being converted into residential plots due to the drying up of Kanmai.

In the past few years, all the agricultural lands have been converted into residential plots due to insufficient water supply to the panchayat areas such as Keezamelkudi, Kalkurichi, Rajagambiram, Surakulam Billaruthan, Mankulam. Farmers are suffering because they are not able to do agricultural work. Some of the farmers from Keelamelgudi say that Manamadurai is an eyesore on the road leading to Keelamelkudi, which is adjacent to Manamadurai town.

Since it has been more than 15 years since water came to this Kanmai, all the lands in this area have now been converted into houses and many people have built houses. They said that the district administration should take steps to bring water to Kanmais adjacent to the Manamadurai Nagar area by opening the canals coming from the Vaigai river.
