The VW ID7 isn’t even on the market yet – it has already been voted Car of the Year 2024 in Germany.

The electric mid-range sedan prevailed against the other class winners at the German Car of the Year 2024 awards ceremony. The winner was once again an electric vehicle that was able to leave the other types of drive behind. For the second time since 2023, a Volkswagen model has won the coveted prize Secure Car of the Year after the VW ID Buzz won last year. In previous years, models such as Jaguar i-Pace, Porsche Taycan, Honda e and Hyundai Ioniq 6 won. The jury for the German Car of The Year awards ceremony consists of 29 motor journalists active in German-speaking countries, along with ten international guest jurors.

In its basic configuration, the 4.96 meter long VW ID7 offers 210 kW / 286 hp and a maximum torque of 545 Newton meters. There are two battery types to choose from for the electric sedan: the one in the ID7 Pro, which will be launching on the market in the coming weeks, with a capacity of 77 kilowatt hours and the one in the ID7 Pro S with 85 kWh. This means ranges of up to 700 kilometers are possible. When it comes to charging, VW is also making urgent improvements to its electric Passat brother: the ID7 Pro has 170 kilowatts and the Pro S up to 200 kilowatts. The 15-inch infotainment screen forms the command center, which is complemented by a narrow digital display band and the standard head-up display with augmented reality. In addition, a bar with quick selection symbols is integrated into the main screen, with which you can directly access important functions such as navigation, assistance systems or vehicle data. The comfortable front seats have a massage function and an optional large glass sliding roof bathes the interior in natural light or darkens it if desired.

“We had barely presented our ID7 before it was named German Car of the Year by a renowned expert jury – an incredible success,” said Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer, “the win shows that we are on the right track: top -Quality, intuitive operation and efficiency that is fun. 100 percent Volkswagen.” The VW ID7, best in class in the segment of vehicles with a cost price of up to 70,000 euros, was able to beat competitors such as the MG4, Kia EV9, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 and the Porsche 911 T to their places in the final.
