Five Hundred Meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope – “FAST” for short is the largest and most sensitive radio telescope ever. Located in the middle of the mountains in Dawodang, China, it receives radio waves from space that optical telescopes cannot perceive. The diameter of the FAST mirror is 500 meters and consists of 4,450 individual reflective elements. The 10,000-tonne instrument uses these to search for signals from the most remote corners of the universe.
