A tragic accident occurred at the U2 Schottenring station on Wednesday afternoon in which a visually impaired man fell onto the tracks and was seriously injured.
A fatal accident occurred at Vienna’s U2 Schottenring station on Wednesday afternoon, July 17, 2024. A visually impaired man (55) fell onto the tracks and was hit by an oncoming train. Despite immediate emergency braking, the collision could not be prevented, as reported by Wiener Linien.

The subway driver reacted immediately and started applying emergency braking, but the train could not be stopped in time, which led to the fatality. Wiener Linien expressed its deepest condolences to the relatives of the deceased and is supporting the affected driver, who is currently being cared for by an internal crisis intervention team.
