Fatal Accident on A25 in Celorico da Beira Leaves One Dead and Two Seriously Injured

Traffic on the A25 highway was restored by 7 PM in the direction between Guarda and Celorico da Beira, but it is still operating conditionally in this section, which was closed due to an accident, according to the GNR.

In statements to the Lusa agency, a source from the Public Relations of the GNR General Command clarified that the section that remained closed more than four hours after the accident has been reopened to traffic, although in the area of the incident, at kilometer 149, traffic is only allowed on one lane while cleaning works on the road are underway.

The road accident on the A25 in Celorico da Beira, Guarda district, resulted in one death and two serious injuries, said sources from the GNR, firefighters, and Civil Protection.

A source from the Celorico da Beira Volunteer Firefighters clarified that two light vehicles were involved in the accident and that the victims are three adults: a woman who died and a man and a woman who suffered serious injuries.

A source from the sub-regional command of Emergency and Civil Protection of Beiras and Serra da Estrela stated that one of the seriously injured was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Viseu and the other by ambulance to the hospital in Guarda.

The A25, which connects the Vilar Formoso border to Aveiro, was briefly closed in both directions between Guarda and Celorico da Beira to enable the operation of a helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), but traffic resumed in the west to east direction, opposite to the accident, a little more than two hours after the alert was given at 2:25 PM.

At the scene, 39 operatives and 14 vehicles from the Guarda and Celorico da Beira firefighters, GNR, and the INEM helicopter were involved in security and rescue operations for the victims.
