BREAKING NEWS: Fatal Crash Involving Austin Police Officer on Highway 183 in North Austin
Austin, Texas – Tragedy struck in north Austin on Friday as one person lost their life and an Austin police officer sustained injuries in a devastating crash. According to preliminary reports from the police, the incident occurred on June 30, at approximately 5:03 p.m., in the 13000 block of N US 183 HWY NB.
The crash involved an on-duty Austin Police Department (APD) officer in a marked police unit and another driver. Both vehicles suffered extensive damage, indicating the magnitude of the collision. Sadly, the civilian driver sustained serious injuries, and despite life-saving measures being performed, they were pronounced dead around 5:23 p.m.
In addition to the civilian’s fatality, the APD officer also suffered injuries and was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The extent of the officer’s injuries remains unknown at this time.
The APD Vehicular Homicide Unit has been assigned to investigate this incident thoroughly. Additionally, the APD Internal Affairs unit will carefully review the investigation process to ensure transparency and accountability.
