The father of young Spanish football star Lamine Yamal was stabbed on Wednesday in the Catalan city of Mataró and is in serious but stable condition, according to the Spanish newspaper La Vanguardia.
Mounir Nasraoui was stabbed multiple times in a parking lot in Mataró, about thirty kilometers north of Barcelona, after a dispute in the street with some men. They approached him while he was walking his dog and then assaulted him, the Barcelona daily reports, citing “official sources familiar with the incident”.

According to sources close to the victim also quoted in the press, Mounir Nasraoui’s condition is serious but remains “stable”. The regional Catalan police, responsible for the investigation, have not publicly confirmed the incident nor responded to requests for information from AFP.
In his childhood neighborhood
The attack took place in the Rocafonda neighborhood, where Yamal grew up and where his father and grandmother still live.
The 17-year-old player, who has established himself in a year as one of the greatest talents in world football, is used to celebrating his goals by forming the number 304, the last three digits of the postal code of this modest Catalan neighborhood, with his hands.
His father became famous during Euro 2024, which Yamal won with Spain, thanks to his posts on social media and media appearances.
Arriving by car at the hospital in Badalona, where his father was, Lamine Yamal visited him on Wednesday afternoon. “Thank you all for your messages of encouragement, I am feeling better, kisses to all,” Mounir Nasraoui posted on his official Instagram account. According to a source close to the family contacted by AFP, he is now “out of danger” and “remains under observation” in a “stable” condition.
Four people arrested
Four people have been arrested following the knife attack on Lamine Yamal’s father, local police reported. On Wednesday at 11 PM, three individuals were taken into custody and are currently at the Mataró police station, where they are being questioned, while a fourth individual was apprehended Thursday at 11 AM. The police have not provided details about their identities.
Investigators must also hear from the victim “as soon as possible,” as well as witnesses to determine the circumstances of this attack, the police stated.
