Washington: A 22-year-old mother has died after being shot by her three-year-old son. The accident happened in Chicago on Saturday. The mother was accidentally shot while the child was playing with a gun. Accidents like this are now common in the United States, police said.
The woman was shot in the car park near a supermarket in the Midwestern city. The child was sitting in the child seat in the back of the car. The parents did not notice that the baby had taken the gun from the father’s pocket. Shortly after playing with the gun, the boy pressed the trigger and then shot his mother, Deja Bennett, in the back of the neck. He was rushed to a Chicago hospital but died later. Checking whether the gun in the possession of the child’s father is legal. As part of that, he was taken into police custody.
According to reports, more than 350 people are shot dead every year due to negligence. The Gun Violence Archive website estimates that 40,000 people are shot and killed each year in the U.S., including suicides.
