FBI Manhunt for New Jersey Man Connected to US Capitol Assault Ends in Surrender

by time news

Gregory Yetman, the New Jersey man wanted in connection with the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, has surrendered to authorities, ending a days-long FBI manhunt. The 47-year-old turned himself in without incident at the Monroe Township Police Department on Friday and is now in FBI custody.

Yetman had fled his home in Helmetta on Wednesday when FBI agents arrived to serve him with a federal warrant. He was spotted hopping a fence and running towards train tracks and into a wooded area, prompting a massive manhunt with armed FBI agents, members of the Joint Terrorism Task Force, and search dogs.

The FBI had released pictures showing Yetman at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, when hundreds stormed the complex. At the time, Yetman was a military police sergeant in the New Jersey National Guard, where he served for about 12 years until March 2022. He is now facing various felony offenses, including assaulting officers, obstruction of law enforcement during a civil disorder, entering a restricted area, and engaging in physical violence.

Yetman’s surrender comes as a relief for authorities, bringing an end to the high-profile manhunt that has been ongoing since the Jan. 6 assault. His surrender also serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to hold those involved accountable for their role in the events at the U.S. Capitol.

The capture of Yetman is a significant development in the ongoing investigations into the Jan. 6 insurrection, with authorities continuing to pursue other individuals involved in the assault. As the legal proceedings move forward, the FBI and law enforcement will remain vigilant in their efforts to bring all those involved to justice.
