FBI opens investigation into Erik Prince over his support for Haftar

by times news cr

The American newspaper “Washington Babylon” reported that Erik Prince, the former head of the security services company “Blackwater”, who is considered close to former US President Donald Trump, is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation on cases of illegal arms sales, money laundering, and communication with foreign intelligence agencies and military entities, including his communication and planning of operations with Khalifa Haftar.

According to the newspaper, the investigations focus on three main issues, the first of which is Prince’s involvement in illegally transferring weapons to Haftar, which is a violation of the international embargo imposed on Libya, noting that Prince participated in a conspiracy to help Haftar during his attempt to overthrow the internationally recognized government in Libya in 2019.

The newspaper added that the second point in the investigations focused on whether Prince had laundered the money he received for his role in supporting Haftar, noting that the United Nations estimated the cost of the Haftar assistance plan at $80 million, and that a large part of this money came from the government of the United Arab Emirates.

According to the report, the investigations also focused on the relationship between Haftar and Prince, and the latter’s role in providing military support to Haftar and planning military operations.
