CriptoFácil – In yet another episode of the FTX case, an FBI team served a search warrant at the home of Ryan Salame, former CEO of the FTX subsidiary in the Bahamas. The new search comes more than five months after the giant collapse of the platform in November.

Numerous agencies, prosecutors and failed investors alleged that the exchange committed fraud against its clients, demanding severe punishment for its leaders. In this sense, the search at Salame’s house is part of this operation.

According to a story in The New York Times, the FBI raided Salami’s home in Potomac, Maryland, on Thursday (27). The team had a search warrant, however the reason behind the raid remains unknown.

Salame joined the FTX team in 2021 before the platform collapsed. At the time, the executive served as CEO of FTX Digital Marketing (the exchange’s affiliate in the Bahamas).

Just 30 years old, Salame emerged as a centerpiece in the scandal last year after telling Bahamian regulators that FTX may have embezzled billions of dollars in client funds and transferred the funds to Alameda Research.

In addition, the executive also made headlines by donating more than $23 million to Republican candidates and political action committees. In this way, Salame joined Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) himself in the list of FTX personalities with strong political connections.

For its part, SBF reportedly pumped in about $40 million in political donations in the 2022 election cycle, mostly to Democrats. Then-candidate and current President Joe Biden received a large portion of these donations.

SBF na mira

As reported by CriptoFácil, the former CEO of FTX spent a brief period in a prison in the Bahamas before being extradited to the United States. SBF even went to prison upon arriving in the country, but received the right to remain under house arrest.

Currently, the former CEO lives at his parents’ home in California, where he awaits the trial that is scheduled to take place in early October.

The former FTX leader faces severe charges, including wire fraud, conspiracy and money laundering, after the exchange’s closing in November 2022 caused billions of investors to lose.

There is the possibility of an agreement, but SBF has already stated that it intends to plead not guilty to the charges. If he is found guilty at the October 2023 trial, he could face life in prison and spend his life in prison.
