Hansi Flick and FC Barcelona are in the final stages of their preseason preparations. But there is apparently still a problem before the start of the league.

Much is known about FC Barcelona’s financial problems. Years of mismanagement on the transfer market and the completely bloated player budget have been a problem for years and were fueled by the Corona crisis. In 2022, the mountain of debt is said to have amounted to more than 1.3 billion euros. President Joan Laporta always stresses that the situation is improving, but it is not good yet.

As the Spanish broadcaster Cadena SER reports, FC Barcelona is not yet allowed to register new signing Dani Olmo for the new league season. The club must first sell players. With the ban, the association wants to prevent Barça from slipping even deeper into financial misery. And so far, the Catalans have only earned around 18 million euros, but paid around 60 million euros to Rasenballsport Leipzig for Dani Olmo.

Hansi Flick, Barcelona’s new coach, may have to be patient before he can use the creative midfielder. At least right-back Julián Araujo is said to be on the verge of joining Premier League club AFC Bournemouth. The English are said to be willing to pay ten million euros for the Mexican. More departures are to follow. Among others, winger Ansu Fati is allowed to leave the club, and there are also allegedly interested parties for the Brazilian Raphinha. However, the rumours are not concrete yet.

However, Barcelona doesn’t have much time, as the first league game is next Saturday. In the evening, Flick’s team will face FC Valencia in their first competitive game. Then they want to get their first points. Ideally with Dani Olmo.
