Julian Nagelsmann has extended his contract with the DFB as national coach until 2026. This is an understandable decision. The most important thing is that the national team is calm before the home European Championships. There has been a lot of discussion recently about the contract issue, which Nagelsmann himself helped initiate a few weeks ago. Now there is a definitive answer and with it peace. So exactly what the DFB needs when the European Championship starts. It is a right and good time to clarify this personality now. Now everyone knows what happens after the tournament and you won’t have any discussions during the European Championships.
The decision to continue as national coach is also the right one because Nagelsmann made significant changes to the squad with his last nomination. That was a very important situation before the two wins against France and the Netherlands. They were changes for the future. It’s only logical to stay on board and continue on this path yourself. Nagelsmann will now look after the national team for two tournaments and is thus sending a signal that he identifies one hundred percent with his job.
Völler paved the way for Nagelsmann
Having a national coach who is responsible for one or two tournaments is just right. I also think it’s good that it’s not a long-term contract. There may be other things ahead of Nagelsmann in the future. It would have been a shame if he hadn’t continued on the path he was pushing with the new squad.
Rudi Völler, who recently extended his position as sports director at the DFB until 2026, has virtually paved the way for him. He is also really good for the national team. After the last two victories, a certain euphoria has arisen with the Völler deal. You can’t do much more than have Völler at your side. That was certainly an important factor for Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann’s rejection is good for Bayern

Bayern Munich will definitely still present a good coach in the end. But it remains exciting because many things haven’t worked out yet.

The situation with current coach Thomas Tuchel is also exciting. He is now with the team in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
