That’s why I think his decision to not disappoint Austria with his departure is completely logical and understandable. You don’t do that when you sign a contract that is valid until 2026. And that not only includes the European Championships in the summer, but also the World Cup in two years, which they last took part in 26 years ago. You can’t just say: I’m saying goodbye anyway.
There were some who were already 100% committed to Rangnick as the new Bayern coach. I was never convinced of this and couldn’t get used to the idea. He still has big goals to fulfill with Austria.

The search for a coach is probably the most difficult situation for Bayern in the club’s history. Maybe it used to be the case that when Bayern wanted a coach, they always got him. But that has changed a bit now.
This was shown by the three rejections from Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick. All three decisions to stay with their teams are completely logical and understandable to me. Of course, that still hurts Bayern. With Nagelsmann it is now almost the same situation as with Rangnick. He, too, has taken a path with his team that must now be continued. Not just at the European Championships in your own country, but also at the 2026 World Cup.
It is just as right that Alonso continues his successful work in Leverkusen. He wants to develop something there over a longer period of time and still has 20 or 25 years ahead of him as a coach. The door will definitely open for him again at Bayern Munich at some point. But for the moment it’s good to stay in Leverkusen. He received the trust there and now he is giving something back to the club.

This is bitter for Bayern. You have to keep looking. I don’t think they’re starting from scratch now. You will definitely have a few more suitable candidates on your list. For me this is not an A, B, C or D solution. Basically, that’s always the danger when you fixate on one candidate like that.
