FC St.Gallen Secures Victory Late with Penalty Despite Missed Chances

by time news

The FC St.Gallen missed many opportunities in the first hour to score the decisive goal.

The strikers, Chadrac Akolo and Willem Geubbels, who had been so efficient in recent matches, were unsuccessful this time despite having chances. Both were stopped multiple times by the strong GC keeper Justin Hammel. Additionally, Konrad Faber hit only the inside of the post with a cross.

It was fortunate for St.Gallen and unfortunate for GC that the goal finally came when the Zurich team was making the match more balanced: In the 81st minute, referee Lukas Fähndrich saw a foul by the Japanese player Ayumu Seko in the penalty area of GC during a duel with Jovan Milosevic. Milosevic, who entered the contest similarly robustly, converted the penalty.

The lead was then put in jeopardy, but St.Gallen’s goalie Lawrence Ati Zigi was on hand to secure the three points against Kristers Tobers’ shot from eleven meters.

With this, FC St.Gallen was able to continue its successful run. This is not a matter of course given the dense schedule that coach Enrico Maassen’s team has to manage since the start of the season.

On Thursday, St.Gallen travels to Wroclaw, and three days later for the Swiss Cup against the amateurs of Malcantone.
