Last weekend there was a scandal in Switzerland: ex-Salzburg coach Ricardo Moniz, who is now a coach at FC Zurich, was thrown from the stands – with an umbrella by a player’s father (read here >>>).
Moniz first replaced 19-year-old Labinot Bajrami in the cup match against Zug (2-0) and then came off again 20 minutes later. The youngster’s father was more than angry about this and threw an umbrella towards the trainer, which disappeared.
“This is not about football anymore. I love this sport and I am grateful every day that I can work in football. It is an excess like this that is worrying. Unfortunately, it is going in the completely wrong direction,” says Moniz “Salzburger News”.

He replaced Bajrami because he did not follow Moniz’s instructions and made disrespectful comments – something the coach could not tolerate. Moniz announced in the “SN”: “I will go to the police and file a report. After such an attack, I have no other choice.”
“Don’t have the necessary ambition”
Bajrami’s quick substitution is nothing new. Moniz has substituted a player in and out three times this season. The ex-Salzburg coach attributes this to the changing attitude of the champions: “They no longer have the ambition to reach the top. They want to achieve everything with 50 percent effort. But that is not possible to do.” In football you have to do, you can’t achieve anything by acting.
According to Moniz, he wants to continue as a coach at FC Zurich and he likes the work. On the other hand, Bajrami has no future at FCZ: “There is no way back for him. Labinot is a very talented player, unfortunately he is not well informed by those around him,” said Moniz.
