Berlin The Free Democrats are mobilizing against the Greens-led Ministry of the Environment. At a meeting on Tuesday, the FDP parliamentary group decided to commission an expert opinion, which in turn is intended to refute an expert opinion from a subordinate authority in the Ministry of the Environment. This was confirmed by the participants of the meeting. It’s about a neuralgic issue of the coalition: the speed limit.
The Federal Environment Agency recently presented a new report on the climate impact of a speed limit. According to this, a maximum speed on motorways could help to save almost seven million tons of carbon dioxide a year.
If there were also a limit of 80 kilometers per hour on country roads, it should even be eight million tons. In 2020, the authority had calculated a maximum of two million tons.
