The Israel Fire and Rescue Center 102 received several calls about a fire at the Eko factory involving hazardous materials. Fire and rescue teams from Dimona, Arad, Beer Sheva and Nativot stations were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident. The firefighters who arrived at the scene teamed up with the manager of the factory who presented them with a general picture of the situation, including the involvement of a number of materials that are apparently burning inside the factory and at a high risk level.

All the teams were divided into several sectors where a team of fire fighters performs monitoring in the entire area of ​​the factory and checks wind directions in order to identify when necessary a danger if a dangerous substance is dispersed in the air. Teams of fire fighters strove to contact and identified several burning foci inside the factory with mixed and dangerous substances among them.

At this stage, the fire fighters are acting with extra caution while monitoring at all times and checking the chemical composition of every material stored in the factory in order to identify the reaction of the materials in the involvement of fire and extinguishing agents. Additional teams of firefighters are scanning for trapped people and at this stage no missing persons or injuries have been reported.

The commander of the Dimona Tafser station, Deputy Gershon Kalimi, who was present at the scene, said: “This is a very complex incident involving dangerous substances that could at any moment react in a dangerous way as a result of the spread of the fire. We are conducting an investigation of the owner of the plant to identify all the materials, and at the same time, the fire protection section of the Dimona station is conducting a cross-examination Information and locating risk points in order to identify additional dangers. At this stage there is no danger to nearby buildings and the population.”
