Fear of terror in Spain: passengers jumped from a train to escape the wave of fires – and were seriously injured

by time news

A wave of forest fires has been raging in recent days in the Valencia region of eastern Spain – where hundreds of firefighters are trying to control large flames that broke out in several locations.

The huge fire started last Saturday night, in a settlement called ‘Val de Abo’ – apparently as a result of a lightning strike. 1,600 local residents were evacuated from their homes in panic, and at the same time about 300 firefighters working in the area are working to put out two more fires coming from the north of Valencia.

The lightning strike is added to the wave of fires that started already last July, as a result of the heavy heat that prevails in Europe at this time – temperatures that even reach 45 degrees, and bring with them deadly forest fires.

Portugal, Croatia, Turkey, France, Great Britain and Spain – are the countries that have been damaged so far by the wave of fires caused by the heat, and in Spain alone more than 10 firefighting planes are working to overcome the sources of the fire.

Meanwhile, it was allowed to be published this morning (Thursday) that three people who jumped from a train that was making its way near the area of the fires in Valencia – were seriously injured, and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

According to reports in the local media, the three jumped off the train because they were afraid that the train would continue into the flames, but they did not imagine that the driver had already thought about it and made the decision not to continue the journey so as not to endanger the passengers. He stopped the train in the town of Bakhis to announce his return to the original destination, but apparently did not report this to the frightened train passengers, who, as mentioned, three of them broke the train’s windows, and jumped – something that could have been avoided if the locomotive driver had informed the passengers of his decision.
