Federal government passes crisis budget – without crisis precautions

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP), Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) had their hands full because of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The internal struggle for the billions in the budget, otherwise always at the top of the political agenda, had to take a back seat to sanctions and alliance talks, attempts at mediation and aid measures. With a one-week delay, Lindner brought the first budget of a red-green-yellow federal government into the cabinet this Wednesday. This is once again shaped by the corona crisis, while the war that broke out in Ukraine three weeks ago has not yet been priced in.
