Operation Trapiche arrested two terrorists linked to Hezbollah.

The Federal Police temporarily arrested two men financed and recruited by the Lebanese radical group Hezbollah. During the operation, 11 search and seizure warrants were executed in São Paulo, the Federal District and Minas Gerais.

According to the PF, the group intended to attack synagogues and other buildings belonging to the Brazilian Jewish community. The investigation points to the possibility that the men arrived in Brazil with information about the planned locations for the attacks.

The two were arrested in São Paulo. One of them had just arrived from a trip from Lebanon, and was detained at Guarulhos airport.

Those involved must answer for the crimes of establishing or joining a terrorist organization and carrying out preparatory acts of terrorism.

Crimes provided for in the Terrorism Law are equated with heinous crimes, considered non-bailable, ineligible for grace, amnesty or pardon, and the sentence for these crimes is initially carried out under a closed regime, regardless of whether the conviction becomes final. Penalties can reach 15 years in prison.
