Italian High Jumper Federico Celebrin Joins Carabinieri Sports Center, Eyes 2028 Olympics

A rising star in Italian athletics, Federico Celebrin, has taken a pivotal step toward his Olympic aspirations by joining the athletic section of the Carabinieri Sports Center, officially becoming a professional athlete. The 21-year-old from Treviso is now poised to elevate his training and competition, with his sights set on the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

A Rapid Ascent in the Sport

Celebrin’s journey to this point has been marked by consistent growth over the past three seasons with TrevisAtletica. This culminated in a debut appearance for Italy at the under 23 European Championships in Bergen. He has openly expressed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of his idol, Gianmarco “Gimbo” Tamberi, a celebrated Italian high jumper.

The recently concluded season saw Celebrin achieve impressive results, demonstrating his potential on both national and international stages. He secured sixth place at the under 23 European Championships, followed by a third-place finish at the Indoor Championships in Ancona with a jump of 2.23 meters. He also earned two silver medals at the Italian category championships and established a new outdoor personal best of 2.21 meters.

Looking Ahead to Birmingham and Beyond

“Joining a military sports group was one of my goals at the beginning of the season and I’m happy to have achieved it,” Celebrin stated. He is now focused on the European Championships in Birmingham in 2026, with the hope of earning a place on the national team and continuing to improve his personal best. Celebrin’s indoor season is scheduled to begin on January 31st in Lucca, and he expressed his eagerness to compete.

A Landmark Achievement for TrevisAtletica

The president of TrevisAtletica, Rolando Zuccon, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Federico is the first athlete in our history to join a military sports group,” Zuccon noted. “His growth in these three years has been extraordinary, and we are certain that it is only the beginning. He represents a point of reference for young people and an example of commitment and talent.”

Celebrin will officially take his oath on Monday, December 22nd, in Rome. From that moment forward, his career with the Carabinieri will officially begin, though he will continue to compete for TrevisAtletica in club championships, maintaining his ties to the organization that fostered his early development. This dual affiliation allows him to benefit from the resources of a national-level sports program while remaining connected to his local athletic community.
