The PP will only renew the CGPJ after its bill is approved so that the judges can choose among themselves

The PP has hardened this Wednesday its position on the unblocking of the CGPJ. If on Tuesday the popular They reported that agreeing on the law for the judges to choose among themselves was enough to unblock the Council, today they add that this would not be enough, but that the judges should elect, again, 12 of the 20 members who are pending renovation currently. “We do not trust”, they confess in Genoa.

how? First, the norm that the PP has presented in Congress would have to be approved and, later, it should be the judges who would appoint the majority of the members of the judicial leadership. “The law has to be in the BOE so that the judges choose among themselves”, PP sources have defended. The other eight members could be the ones that the PP and PSOE had on the table in October, when their negotiation was blown up.

In this way, Alberto Nez Feijo puts tougher conditions on the table than paul married, who never gave up completing the current renewal of the CGPJ with the current law. And, above all, the PP clashes with the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynderswho has asked “first” to renew the Council with the current model of election of the members to, “subsequently”, reform the law so that the judges choose among their peers at least 50% of the members.

Why has the PP changed its position in just 24 hours? On Tuesday afternoon in the leadership of the PP an analysis of the situation was made, after which Alberto Nez Feijo came to the conclusion that the Government can no longer be trusted. One of the reasons is that he himself had agreed with Pedro Sánchez that politicians could not go to the Constitutional Court until five years had passed since they left politics, but the Executive appointed two magistrates who did not comply: the former minister of Justice Juan Carlos Field and the former director general of the Ministry of the Presidency, Laura Dez Bueso.

It must be remembered that the PP will take it to the plenary session of Congress next week to take into consideration its reform of the CGPJ election system to “adapt it to the requirements established by Europe” and that “judges choose judges.”

If the norm is not taken into consideration, it will be the last nail in the coffin of the CGPJ… until the next legislature.
