Almost two months after announcing “adjustments” in the leadership of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo seems to have made a decision and has begun to drip announce the different changes that he will undertake in his leadership this week. If on Sunday he ratified Cuca Gamarra as “full-time” general secretary, this Monday he reported that he has chosen as parliamentary spokesperson the hitherto deputy secretary of Territorial Organization of the PP, Miguel Tellado. On Thursday the National Executive Committee of the PP will ratify the new structure.
In a statement sent to the media this Monday, the PP points out that “parliamentary life will be very relevant in this legislature, the first in which the first party in Spain, the one that won the general elections on July 23, does not preside. the Government of the nation.”
In addition, the PP has announced that Tellado’s replacement in the organizational chart will fall to the until now Deputy Secretary of Social Policies, Carmen Fúnez, who will assume the Deputy Secretary of Organization. Her work, according to the statement, is “in charge of energizing and improving the structure of the party both in Spain and abroad, as well as the training of the PP’s political assets, the improvement of the participation systems of members and the implementation of the electoral strategy throughout the territory.”
Tellado will thus replace Gamarra herself, who accumulated the two positions in the extraordinary congress that enthroned Feijóo without rivals. It was April 2022 and, since then, the leader of the PP has modified the direction that he himself designed 18 months ago a couple of times. Last January he hired Borja Sémper as campaign spokesperson. In March he appointed him deputy secretary of Culture, promoted Carmen Fúnez to Social Policies and relegated his predecessor, Carmen Navarro, to Studies.
