The president of the Popular Party, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has chosen the symbolic Castle of Soutomaior, in Pontevedra, to start the political course and show muscle before his own. He does so after being the most voted list in the general elections and being proposed as a candidate for the presidency of the Government designated by the King.

Wrapped by a good part of his barons, Feijóo has made it clear what his red lines are in the face of the negotiations that he will begin this Monday.

The leader of the popular has promised this Sunday to dialogue, starting tomorrow, with the political parties “that want to talk”, but has assured that he will not accept blackmail or auctions, “nor will he submit to what the minorities want. No we are Sanchez”.

Despite everything, Feijóo has been realistic in his approach by admitting that Sánchez has options to continue in La Moncloa if he agrees with all the nationalist and pro-independence parties. In the event that this happens, he has assured that he is not willing to do the same as the PSOE general secretary because “it is better to lose an investiture than Spain not lose.”

The leader of the PP has emphasized that, as the winner of the elections on July 23, he will have the opportunity to present his government program in an investiture session that, although it does not bear fruit and is not “a short-term investiture ” if it will serve to lay “the first stone of the Government of Spain”.

In addition, he has stressed that if Pedro Sánchez finally becomes president again “it would be the first time in the history of Spain that the one who wins the elections and has four votes left to be sworn in as Prime Minister has to give way to the one who loses the elections and that it needs 24 parties to disintegrate Spain”.

When will the investiture session be?

Feijóo’s investiture debate will be held on September 26 and 27 and the plan is for the candidate’s speech to take place on Tuesday 26 and for the first vote to be held the following day, in which the candidate requires absolute majority to be invested.

In case of not obtaining it, there will be a second vote 48 hours later, on Friday, September 29, in which it would be enough for Feijóo to obtain more votes in favor than against to be sworn in as Prime Minister.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo has 172 votes for his investiture: those of his formation, those of Vox, that of UPN and that of the Canarian Coalition. And he has practically a month to win the 4 votes that he lacks.

The leader of the PP was accompanied at the opening ceremony of the political course by its main regional barons: the presidents of Andalusia, Juanma Moreno; from Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco; from Aragon, Jorge Azcón; from Extremadura, Maria Guardiola; from Murcia, Fernando López Miras, and from the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens. In addition, the general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, the general coordinator, Elías Bendodo, and the former president of the Government, Mariano Rajoy, were present.
