Pastor and federal deputy Marco Feliciano recorded a video to express his indignation with the approval of the Tax Reform. The measure was approved last night (7) by 382 votes in favor, 118 against and 3 abstentions, constituting a victory for the government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
In his recording, Feliciano said he was “downcast” and made several indirect references to the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas, who was at a meeting of the Liberal Party (PL), in Brasília, to discuss the issue of Reform with his allies.
At the time, however, Tarcísio disagreed with former president Jair Messias Bolsonaro, defending the approval of the measure, even if he was not 100% in favor of right-wing ideals.
Critics of the Reform, on the other hand, argued that the final text of the proposal, with more than 140 pages, was delivered a few minutes before the vote, and that therefore it would be impossible to approve something without being sure as to the viability or otherwise of its content. .
On polling day, former state deputy Janaína Paschoal, who is a law professor at the University of São Paulo (USP), said she had analyzed part of the proposal and concluded that it meant a “huge trap” for the Brazilian population.
“I ask Parliamentarians, at least, to refuse to vote now, to allow for greater discussion and the due maturation of the PEC”, appealed to the former deputy, joining the chorus of criticism of the project.
“Traitors”
Feliciano, in turn, implied that the approval of the Tax Reform may have occurred due to opportunism and “traitors”. Without quoting Governor Tarcísio de Freitas, he hinted that Bolsonaro’s former minister would be rushing to want to gain prominence for 2026.
