The beauty of the city of Granada astonished the more than 40 leaders who attended the meeting of the European Political Community (CPE), and who this Friday will participate in the informal meeting of heads of State and Government of the European Union. The eyes of all of Europe focused on the charms and light that the Alhambra gives off and saw how the city is a symbol of the intersection of cultures. In fact, throughout the entire day, notable phrases from some leaders could be heard extolling the beauty of the Granada city.
After the meeting, the Kings acted as hosts to the leaders and received the European heads of State and Government during their visit to the monument and subsequent dinner at the Parador, located next to the Alhambra. The menu was the work of chef Paco Morales, who runs the Noor restaurant in Córdoba with two Michelin stars. During the visit to the Alhambra, it was possible to see how some mandarins took out their cell phones to photograph or make videos, a sign of astonishment at what they were seeing.
Before the leaders, King Felipe VI gave a speech in which he praised “the history” of the Andalusian city that “has become a unique example of cultural fusion in Europe.”
In fact, it valued its cosmopolitan, welcoming and student character. “He has enriched our culture and our language, and has shaped our character in so many ways that we still feel it today,” the Monarch said in English before the international leaders. He also wanted to focus on the “openness” character of the city, which has currently become one of the main destinations for European students of the Erasmus + program. “We are proud of this status as a European public square, where young minds from all over the continent come to study, feed their curiosity, discover what interests them and train themselves as European citizens,” highlighted the Head of State, referring to the popularity of Spain as a destination for students from all over Europe.
Next, the Monarch highlighted the “complex and common” history of Europe. He insisted that the different positions of the countries that make up the continent as well as their different sensitivities have made possible a union around common values. “About a true peace that is not based on the strength of one actor but on the free consent of everyone, great and small,” added Felipe VI, who stressed that “we are a political community with shared values, aspirations and interests.” Finally, he stopped at the European Political Community (EPC), a platform for political and strategic debates on the future of Europe that yesterday held its meeting in Granada and highlighted that it is “a tool” to reach “common positions and so that the European voice can be heard on the world stage.
