Argentine Field Hockey Leagues Resume with Thrilling Closings

The nation’s premier field hockey competitions are back in action, with both the women’s and men’s leagues delivering exciting matches and setting the stage for championship showdowns.

After a two-week hiatus, the Argentine field hockey scene roared back to life this past Saturday with the resumption of the Closing tournaments for both female and male athletes. Eight high-flight female games took place, showcasing victories for established powerhouses and promising performances from rising teams. The men’s league is poised to follow suit on Sunday, with defending champions looking to maintain their dominance.

Women’s League: Champions Assert Dominance, Newcomers Challenge

The defending champions, The Tordos, kicked off the female league’s closing with a decisive 5-1 victory over Marista “B” at the Godoy Cruz stadium. While their performance reportedly left some room for improvement, according to sources, the team demonstrated their intent to secure a second consecutive crown. “The Catalans dream of conquering the second crown in a row and yesterday they took the first step,” a local observer noted.

Close behind, the runner-up, Andean Regattas, narrowly defeated newly promoted Vistalba in a tight 2-1 contest at the same venue. This victory underscores the increasing competitiveness of the league, as newcomers challenge the established order.

Other notable results from Saturday included Marist’s 2-1 win over Murialdo on Terrada Street, and victories for Liceo against University and German over Teqüe. In a highly anticipated “South Classic,” Maristas de San Rafael triumphed over San Jorge with a score of 3-1.

The matches concluded with a 1-1 draw between Tacurú and Banco Mendoza, with Tacurú securing a bonus point in the penalty shootout. Similarly, Works and University of San Juan also ended with a 1-1 tie, with Works earning the extra point.

Men’s League: German “A” Aim to Retain Title

The focus now shifts to the men’s league, where German “A” will attempt to defend their championship title. The Teutons are scheduled to face their rivals, German “B”, at 15:30 at the Godoy Cruz stadium.

The upcoming schedule also features a clash between Murialdo and Banco Nación at 14:00 in Malvinas, a contest between Vistalba and Chimera at 17:30 in Godoy Cruz, and a match between Banco Mendoza and Works at 19:00 in Malvinas.

The coming weeks promise a thrilling conclusion to the Argentine field hockey season, as teams battle for supremacy and the coveted championship titles.
