Mesut Ozil (Reuters)
After a thriving career of 15 years at the highest levels in Europe that included a wonderful time at Schalke, Real Madrid and Arsenal, Masut Ozil signed last January to great fanfare in Turkish Fenerbahce and was received with great love by the club and Turkish crowd. But today (Thursday) the team announced that he was fired from its roster.
The start of the current season was actually not bad. The midfielder is a partner this season in 22 league games in which he scored eight goals and added two assists. Fener is ranked third in the table with 53 points and 17 points away from first place where Trabzonspor, the team of former Hapoel BS Tony Wakma, is on its way to the championship.
The club’s official statement said that “Mesut Ozil along with Ozen Tofan have been removed from the squad according to the decision made”. In January, Ozil suffered an injury that sidelined him for about two months. Since then he has managed to play in three games when in the last game of the team in which they defeated Konyaspor Ozil 1: 2 opened but was already replaced in the half. It is not yet clear what the reason for the star’s removal from the squad is and it is not clear for how long he is “moderated”, but the relationship that will be celebrated on October 34 is already past its peak and it will be interesting to see how things develop.
