In the city of Posadas, fairs became a key instrument to alleviate the local economy, especially in a context where the prices of basic basket products skyrocketed. José Villasanti, owner of the Posadas fair, described the challenges they currently face.
Villasanti pointed out that they are in a campaign with the aim of getting customers to bring their own reusable shopping bag, an initiative that they already started last year. “It’s a budget for the trader, you can see how much a plastic bag costs today. So we’re trying to get people to understand. Hopefully this will multiply and people will change their habits,” he explained.
In this way, they also aim to offer an income opportunity for those who sell reusable bags at fairs.
Price fluctuation is a constant challenge, affecting both producers and consumers. Villasanti gave as an example the case of jars for packaging pickles, whose prices can vary from one day to the next. “Today all those things, the final price, the one who pays is the consumer,” he warned, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding input prices.
When asked about the continuity and expansion of the fairs in the provincial capital, Villasanti revealed that they are considering opening new venues in different multipurpose halls in the city’s neighborhoods.
«Everything is more difficult, expensive inputs, producing costs more and more, costs more and more, moving from one place to another from the interior to the city has high fuel costs, of everything that a vehicle occupies, that always affects the final price of the merchandise,” he said.
However, he considered that even so, for the moment they maintain lower prices compared to other businesses in the city, an advantage that benefits them because it is the main reason why Posadeños choose them and manage to sustain their activity.
