Track cycling
is one of the sports in which the Colombian delegation aspires to win medals. Initially, Martha Bayona was one of the favorites; however, she had a complicated debut that did not allow her to advance in the keirin.
On Thursday, August 8, the discipline held the omnium event, where there was representation from Colombia with Fernando Gaviria’s performance, who, although he competes in road cycling as a sprinter, started out in track cycling.

The Colombian began his participation in Paris 2024 in the scratch event, where he did not achieve the expected result, finishing in 20th place out of 22 cyclists competing. This allowed him to earn two points in the overall classification.
During the second event, which was the tempo, Gaviria improved his performance; however, he did not earn points, finishing in 14th place. Subsequently, in the elimination, he was in the lead of the group for a large part of the race, managing to enter the top 10.
After placing 8th, Fernando was in 15th place with a total of 42 accumulated points, with only the last event remaining.
