FESPACO: Artists keep the public spellbound on Kwamé N’Krumah Avenue

Ouagadougou, March 4, 2023 (AIB)-Artists hold music lovers spellbound every evening on ”the most beautiful avenue” in the Burkinabe capital, as part of the 28th edition of FESPACO, singing hope and peace for Burkina Faso which is going through a difficult security crisis.

“I sang ‘give me your hand'”, said artist Monia on Wednesday night, after her performance on the Fespaco podium on Nkwamé Nkrumah Avenue.

She says she carries a message of hope and peace for African countries, victims of terrorist attacks, imploring Africans to join hands in order to curb the security crisis.

Monia, originally from Togo, was born in Bobo-Dioulasso in the economic capital of Burkina Faso.

“This year’s FESPACO is really good it’s my first time to participate so thank you to FESPACO for giving me the chance to show my talent to the public. I really found FESPACO great despite the country going through a very difficult security crisis,” she said.

The artist Hama Oumarou dit Kodjo dit sang ”Simila” to welcome all participants to the 28th celebration of African cinema. “Weltaare”, according to the artist, is a piece of celebration that marks the end of a crisis to establish reconciliation.

“All those who are there have a thought for the FDS and the VDP who are on the battlefields. We will not say that we are here to celebrate but just to honor the participation. May the Most High continue to encourage them to fight, to bless them so that they can always defend us,” said Babou Néya alias Benga Kabakourou of the comedy group Génération 2000.

Friday evening, several artists including Barack the golden voice, Toksa, Maï Lengani and Dez Altino amazed the public.

For the closing this Saturday, artists including Amzy and Hawa Boussim are expected.
