The Portuguese television network, RTP, revealed today the 20 songs competing to represent Portugal in Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, the contestants will compete in the pre-Eurovision “Festival da Canção 2024”, which is used to select Portugal’s representatives for Eurovision since 1964. Most of the prelude songs are in Portuguese, except for three songs that will be performed in English.

The Portuguese preliminary will be spread over three evenings – a semi-final to be held on February 24, the second semi-final to be held on March 2, and the grand final to be held on March 9. Ten songs will compete in each semi-final, and six songs from each heat will qualify for the final, so that 12 songs will compete in the grand final. The voting method in the semi-finals will include a combination of the audience’s vote (50%) and the judges’ vote (50%) which will determine the identity of the first five contestants, and the sixth contestant to the final will be determined by the audience’s vote (100%). In the grand final, the vote will be divided between the audience at home and the judges.

    Among the contenders in Kedem can be found Mila Dors (Mila Dores) who competed in the Portuguese preliminary in 2019 with the song “Debaixo do luar” and reached seventh place in the second semi-final.

    Mimicat, who won the Portuguese Eurovision Song Contest, represented Portugal in Eurovision 2023 with the song “Ai Coração” (Hebrew: “My Heart”). Portugal qualified for the final after finishing in ninth place in the first semi-final with 74 points, and in the grand final they reached 23rd place with 59 points.

    This is the third time in a row that Portugal has qualified for the finals, an achievement that they compared to the streak of qualifying between the years 2008-2010.

    Eurovision 2024: This will be Portugal’s 55th participation in Eurovision. Portugal joined the competition in 1964 and achieved its best performance at Eurovision 2017 after the singer Salvador Sobral Won first place with the song “Amar pelos dois”.
