Festival des Bois: A Frequent Success

by Sofia Alvarez

The adventures of Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and d’Artagnan unfolded four times this year in the enchanting woods of Aubarède.

AUBARÈDE, France – Audiences were transported to the era of musketeers in the woods of Aubarède, where a company performed a play inspired by Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel four times this year. Under the canopy of trees, actors brought the swashbuckling tales to life for large crowds, with every performance playing to sold-out audiences.

The production followed the thrilling journey of the young d’Artagnan, chronicling his arrival in Paris and his eventual triumphant return from London amidst the “Ferrets de la Reine” affair.

The festival’s unique format invites spectators to stroll through the woods, with actors guiding them along paths and into clearings that enhance the immersive experience of the characters’ adventures.

This theatrical event is poised for a bright future, bolstered by dedicated volunteers. One such volunteer, affectionately known as “Papé,” managed the parking and ensured visitors found shaded spots to stay comfortable on warm days.

The festival experience was rounded out with opportunities to relax in the shade of the village square and enjoy refreshments on-site, creating a pleasant conclusion to the event.

Anticipation is already building for the 2026 edition, promising another delightful experience within the magical setting of the Aubarède woods.
